Commanders Message

The cool winds of fall have descended upon us ending our boating for this year. As we look back on this past season we often think that more time should have been spent on the water. Did inexperience limit your boating travels? Could one of our advanced grade or elective courses have made you more comfortable in your plans? Education and experience will make you a safer boater.

This year when your boat was winterized, was stabilizer added to your fuel? It is more important now with 10% ethanol in the fuel that a product such as Startron or E-Sorb be used and used throughout the season. If you have any questions, ask your marina or a member for help on this issue.

Check the Compass Rose for upcoming meeting programs and classes. This is your squadron. Participate and reap the rewards. If you would like to have a special program contact Lt/C Brenda Keefe. Piloting is scheduled after the first of the year. If you are interested in other classes contact our SEO RuthAnne Collins.

Each year as Commander I must prepare and submit recommendations for merit marks. A merit mark is given to a member that has worked substantially for the benefit of Norwich Power Squadron. What have you done this year? Become involved. Help teach a class, do a program for a meeting, hold a bridge office, proctor a public boating class or be on a committee. The more that each of us is involved, the safer our sport will be. Remember, through Education,Safe Boating is No Accident.
