About Norwich Power Squadron
United States Power Squadron | District 1 |
Norwich Power Squadron |
The United States Power Squadron is comprised of 33 Districts. USPS has some 45,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions.
Each squadron's activities involve the three primary objectives of USPS: community service, continuing education, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members. In a cooperative program with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, squadron members conduct courtesy Vessel Safety Checks of boats at the request of their owners. Our members also help the National Ocean Service keep our nautical charts accurate by reporting chart corrections, and our local squadrons participate in many other community improvement projects.
The Norwich Power Squadron covers the southeastern section of Connecticut - from the Thames River to Long Island Sound.
We are part of the United States Power Squadron District 1. District 1 is comprised of 13 Squadrons in a geographic area that stretches from Westerly, Rhode Island on Long Island Sound to Milford, Connecticut, and inland to Springfield, Massachusetts.
Led by Commander Gene Lewis, the Norwich Power Squadron is comprised of almost 100 members. Our members are very active, participating in:
fun outings
monthly meetings
teaching others about boating
listening to guest speakers discuss safety topics, fishing techniques, learning opportunities, and general boating discussions
progressive dinners
annual fishing derby
picnics
cruises
holiday parties
We are always looking for new members and encourage you to email or call RuthAnne Collins at (860) 444-9027.
